Improving the Ruggedness of Infrared Gas Sensors

Portable and handheld instruments can be subjected to a lot of physical abuses. Fixed gas sensing instruments will also be subject to structure borne vibrations and potentially shock during transport.

Sometimes infrared sources can fail as a result of a shock.  Sometimes a shock or vibration will change the IR source’s optical alignment to the detector thereby requiring a re-calibration of the gas sensor.

Axetris' solid-state IR sources are very rugged.  They recently passed shock and vibration testing to DIN EN 60721-3-7 (IEC 721-3-7), a standard for handheld electronics.
