TDLS for a Cleaner Environment

MFM for the calibration of respiratory modules

Leister Corporate, Axetris, Laser Gas Detection

In this case study for Axetris Laser Gas Detection (LGD) products, Urs F. Boegli – Senior Application Engineer - looks at the historical perspective on the development of environment regulation and emission control technology.

The European Community has published several directives to harmonize the legislation on industrial emissions. These include the Large Combustion Plant Directive (LCPD, 2001/80/EC), Industrial Emissions Directive (IPPC, 2010/75/EU) and the Waste Incineration Directive (2000/76/EC). Comparable efforts are being undertaken all over the world. While the intensity of such efforts in the USA is similar to that in Europe, emerging countries such as China have started to reduce their emission footprint with greater efforts over the past years.

Axetris Laser Gas Detection (LGD) products, based on Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy (TDLS or TDLAS), are used in a variety of environmental applications such as in Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), or in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)/De-NOx systems which are used to limit NOx emissions.
The case study highlights the novel approach by Axetris, where an extractive module is provided to OEM’s, who build gas analysis solutions which are flexible and suited to the needs of the application. Test results from a field test at a waste incineration facility in Switzerland are presented.
